When I lie down

Text by Heinrich Heine (1797-1856)
Translated into English by Joseph Massaad
 deutsch - français

When, on my couch, I'm lying,
Buried in pillows and night,
A sweet and bright image
Floats softly in my sight.

As soon as quiet slumber,
My weary eyes does seal,
Then softly that sweet image,
Within my dream does steal.

Yet, with the dream at morning,
It never melts away,
For in my inner bosom,
I carry it all day.
