Far and wide the see was ablaze

Für die Liebe!

Far and wide the see was ablaze,
While the last evening rays shone;
We sat at the lonely fisherman's place,
We sat silent and alone.

The seagull flew in the sky above,
The mist rose higher and the swell;
And from your eyes, so full of love,
Teardrops appeared and fell.

I saw them fall upon your hand
And I dropped upon my knee;
And bending over your pale hand
I sipped your tears entirely.

Since then, my body is fading away
And my soul is murdered by lust;
Has wretched woman has found a way,
To poison me with her tears? She must!
