Sweet love, on my heart lay your little hand so

Sweet love, on my heart lay your little hand so,
Ah! Do you hear knocking in the chamber below?
There lodges a carpenter, crafty and sly,
And he fashions the coffin wherein I must lie.

He hammers and he knocks by night and by day,
And long since has he driven my sleep away,
So master carpenter, I beg you, make haste
That I, at long last, some slumber may taste.
