In the Halle's market-place

Text by Heinrich Heine (1797-1856)

In the Halle's market-place,
There stand two mighty lions.
See how men have quickly tamed
The lion's hollow boldness!

In the Halle's market-place,
There stands a mighty giant.
He holds a sword, but swings it not,
He is petrified with terror.

In the Halle's market-place,
There stands a mighty church,
Where both Left and Right
Have plenty of room to pray.
